Join Beki Tobiasson for an immersive four-day portrait workshop designed to elevate your technical skill while deepening emotional expression in your work.

Portraiture is more than likeness — it is presence, story, and soul. In this workshop, Beki will guide you through her approach to creating compelling, luminous portraits that feel alive — grounded in structure, strengthened by light, and finished with confidence.

What You’ll Learn

• Designing a strong portrait composition

• Achieving accurate proportions and solid structure

• Understanding value patterns and light logic

• Establishing a powerful monochromatic block-in

• Mixing believable skin tones with depth and harmony

• Creating expressive hands and meaningful gesture

• Infusing emotion and narrative into your subject

• Working confidently with larger brushes for vitality and movement

Students will observe live demonstrations each day, followed by guided painting time with individualized instruction and feedback.

The Process

Day One – Drawing, Structure & Monochromatic Block-In
Students will strengthen their understanding of proportion, value design, and how to build a portrait from a solid structural foundation before moving into full color.

Day Two – Transfer Methods & Confident Application
Beki will teach a professional transfer method, as well as how to use an iPad as an objective tool to evaluate accuracy and progress. These systems allow students to focus fully on paint application, color mixing, and understanding light without becoming stalled by uncertainty.

Days Three & Four – Refinement & Finish
Students will develop harmonious color relationships, believable skin tones, and expressive edges while bringing their portrait to a resolved and compelling finish.
